Apple Podcasts
Since launching in June 2005, Apple Podcasts has grown into a home for millions of shows across every imaginable genre. Nearly two decades later, with the introduction of a subscription-based model, Apple Podcasts needed a cohesive strategy and visual identity to unify its presence and strengthen its voice. Centering on the insight that word of mouth is the primary driver of podcast discovery, the brand leaned into its role as both a trusted guide and editorial authority- offering human curation and deep industry expertise to help listeners navigate an ever-expanding world of audio content.
The core of the new visual identity takes its cues from the most recognizable Apple Podcasts graphic, unchanged since its inception: the purple icon. Not only does this symbol hold worldwide recognition, but it also illustrates the legacy of Apple Podcasts and the community it fosters. We expanded the linear graphics of the icon’s radiating lines into a scalable system that includes on-product brand initiatives, social templates, and Out-of-Home. To guide listener navigation and promote discovery, we created a color-based, category wayfinding system. Finally, we introduced original photography to celebrate creators through elevated, ownable visuals and build a human connection between listeners and the shows they love.
For just under 2 years, I worked as an Art Director on all things Podcasts. Creating everything needed day-to-day and assisting implementing the re-brand into real world use. I worked under the wonderful direction of Dora Godfrey, Naomi Abel, and Yego Moravia.
